Keegan Longueira book available on Amazon

So excited to share this story with all of you. Picture this, 20 years old, hardly any money, dropped out of University, second hand bicycle setting off on a cold rainy morning to cycle across South Africa. If you want to see how this journey changed my life, have a read.

This is the story of humble beginnings. Told by sports scientists and cycling coaches that this journey would be impossible to breaking a guinness World Record cycling from Cairo to Cape Town 4 years later. See why I do what I do.

Cairo to Cape Town Adventurer launches brand new "story telling" initiative

On 2 March Keegan Longueira rolled into the Waterfront in Cape Town South Africa, on his second hand bicycle, ager cycling the length of Africa, Cairo to Cape Town in just 59 Days. He beat the previous record held by dutch cyclist Robert Knol, the previous record was 71 Days.

Now the real adventure begins. "Its not about the adventure, its about the stories afterwards that make peoples hearts come alive," said Keegan about his brand new series of talks on the Cairo to Cape Town expedition.
"Usually people write books, we want to revolutionize that, we want to make the audience feel like they are there on the bike with me," he said.

Keegan has spent a good part of the month in the recording studio, re living the entire experience, day by day. The grueling process was finished just in time before he left for the DRC on a medical mission with Operation Smile. The talks will now be mastered and put into chapters which will be available soon. The audio series will be launched on iTunes, sound cloud and the Android Playstore within the next couple of months.

"This is an incredible project and we are proud to be part of it," said Mr Jean Michel Masson owner of Masson Media who committed their media team to the project.

"I really can't wait to get this out there, people can listen in their cars, on their phones, iPads and anywhere they want, I love the freedom in that!" said Keegan.

Attached are the links to the Trailer Video and Audio sound cloud link, explaining the project.

Guinness World Record attempt...again

Since getting back from the Cairo to Cape Town expedition I have been doing a lot of training with a local CrossFit Box in Witbank. The CrossFit Box (Mammoth) have really adopted me into the family and have agreed to train me for my next trip (which I won't give away yet). What happened next, well I wasn't really prepared for.

CrossFit Mammoth was single handedly responsible for the most pain I have experienced in my life!

Francois who runs the gym met up with me at a local coffee shop before one of my sessions to discuss a possible fund raising event for Operation Smile at Highveld Mall in Witbank. The point was to promote "Health and Fitness Week" at the mall and just shed some light on what CrossFit is about. After throwing some ideas together in the gym we reached a verdict, we would be doing burps. The format: 12 Hours, 10 Athletes, Guinness World Record, Burpee relay. (please click the word Burpee if you have no idea what it is)

As a current holder of a record I agreed to register the record on their behalf as the response time would be much quicker. The date was set for 6 June between 8am and 8pm.
The Thursday before the event however there were some last minute cancelations from athletes who had otter commitments. They were down to 7 names and needed at least one more name...you see were this is going?

The 8 Athletes that set the standard for the Guinness World Record on Saturday 6 June at Highveld Mall, back right, me, a confused looking cyclist thrown into the deep end of CrossFit not to sure if I cried after the picture, but it is possible.

Needless to say, the week before, the sound of "NO REP, NO REP..." was all I could hear between what I defined as a burpee during a session. They believed I could get it right and chucked my name into the list of athletes.

From this, I am happy to say that I was part of the attempt. We raised one surgery for Operation Smile. It was one of the hardest single day events I have ever done, mentally challenging, physically energy sapping and just all round hell. The saying, "Gone to hell and back," really made sense to me yesterday! We completed the 12 hours and managed 13 697 burpees establishing the new baseline for the Guinness World Record!

Just for the record, typing this today, I have rolled over from my bed, wrote as quickly as I can with the only part of my body that can move (my fingers) and will now be rolling back into bed. Have never felt this type of pain, but I would do it all over again, the body is an amazing thing, it is capable of anything, its only the mind that limits it. Over and out...have a lovely end to your Sunday!

Thanks to Francois for putting on a great show!

Wikipedia Link

Just thought I would drop everyone a quick link to the wikipedia page. Its quite cool to see it on the internet. The Cape Trek project has grown beyond my wildest dreams. Will never forget reading a book about Riaan Manser cycling around Africa while I was at university, I thought to myself,"I would love to do something like that." 4 Years later and I have been blessed beyond my human thinking. Back into the coaching

After a crazy couple of months getting all the evidence for GWR sorted, I have managed to get back into the coaching side of things.

I watched the team I am coaching lose 3-1 today which wasn't the ideal come back but I enjoyed being field side again.

I'm missing the road though, I must say, life is a lot easier when it's simple in terms of productivity and getting things done.

Going to be doing some individual coaching with a couple players this season as well which I am looking forward to.

Training back on track

It's been two weeks now of training and in feeling strong and fit again. Looking forward to letting everyone know what the next adventure will be.

Guinness World Record Certificate on its way

Certificate on its way

Just an update on the Record: Guinness have been in contact and will be sending Keegan his certificate shortly. He seems quite excited and say its like his "degree" for the four years of cycling. Again we just want to express our gratitude for every single one of you who have liked the page and followed Keegan! He appreciates it all so much and is excited to share the next adventure's with all of you.
As some of you know he had to pull out of "Dash to Durban" with an injuredhamstring and he was heart broken.
Thanks to all the sponsors who backed Keegan, not knowing whether this journey would be a success...having R70 from Egypt into Sudan, many of us were worried. The Love and support from all of you was incredible!

Officially a Guiness World Record Holder

Yesterday at about 2 in the afternoon the team got an email confirming that I had just become the Fastest Man across the African Continent by bicycle ever!

It was an incredible moment that left me in tears for nearly an hour afterwards. Its been a tremendous 4 years of more failures than successes but all of a sudden it all seems worth the blood sweat and tears.

I just want to thank everyone who was there for me over these past years and supported me through thick and thin. I have learnt so much from the time I have spent exploring and pushing the limits. Eternally grateful.

Malaria, getting down and feeling sorry

I think it wouldn't be unreasonable to name my week this week, "a toughie". Although it didn't consist of thousands of kilometers on a bicycle over harsh terrain amongst aggressive Ethiopians or spells of diarrhea while baking in the African sun every day, it was still a tough week.

The Cricket World Cup loss was felt by every single South African with half a heart. To watch AB and the boys break down on the field showed just how much they had put into this campaign. The pressure must have been tremendous and the tears rolling of their cheeks at the end, left me a miserable wreck as well.

I had to rush to the hospital after the cricket to get some emergency Malaria tests done after I showed all the symptoms of Africa's biggest killer. I didn't feel worried, I just felt like death. I have never experienced headaches like i have in this past week.

So you can say I felt pretty sorry for myself this week. It was another week of no training which really depressed me even more. As some of you read this I am sure you can relate to having a bad week, but then weekend arrived and suddenly I realized I needed to catch a wake up.

I had two speaking arrangements organized yet wasn't feeling to inspired. It was easy to be inspired on a bicycle, away from the daily distractions that have invaded our lives, but to be inspired back home was a different story all together. I pulled away from people, stopped answering my phone and emails and just went back to my simple way of living. I finished the books I was reading and started to draw inspiration from the bible characters epic stories of war and triumph. I slowly started to drag myself out of my miserable rotten thinking.

We all have these moments, and the fact that life gets so busy just forces us to put off things that are really important, like our lives and our happiness. We can't make a difference in a broken world if we don't love ourselves and spend some time each week working things out, reading or praying. You see on the bicycle this became easy for me, but back home, the fast pace of the world pushed my priorities aside.

I made a decision to be excited and proud of the life I have been called to live. I stepped on stage three times this week, alive and excited about the stories I had been blessed with to tell. I felt really inspired just to heard the feed back and the sort of comments that landed in my inbox this morning, things like, "Im moved, I want to be a better husband," "I want to make a difference," "I want to be the best I can be," "I want to live my life."

I don't know who was moved more this week, the people who listened to my stories or me, the bicycle adventurer, coach and friend.

"Positive or negative, we are the captain of our thoughts. When you start to realize that, your daily thinking starts to change. We chose our thoughts, nobody else."
What do you chose?

I guess its time

Home, safe, sound and letting it all sink in. Its been a crazy couple of weeks at home with family sickness, my own illness and just recently the death of a young man I had coached last year.

It was so difficult to blog while I was away, I hardly had a connection anywhere. In the epic race, get up, ride, eat sleep do it all again, sometimes I just didn't have the energy to pour out my heart to a phone screen.

One thing that really got to me though was the fact that when I got home everybody wanted to hear the story about an aggressive arab holding a knife to my neck. This was the only really story that I shared on the road and to think...its definitely not the best one. So I'm so excited to sit down and finally get the story on paper.

Its going to be a long process and a patient one, in which I will dive deep into my mind and heart and draw out the journey in the best way I know how.
The journey has begun, again!

Your opinion matters less than the story...

Today I was running.  It is Sunday, my long run.  The run that builds endurance.  It builds stamina and everything I need to complete my ma...
