The Guinness World Record Broken by Local Boy

The Guinness World Record for the fastest bicycle trip from Cairo to Cape Town has officially been broken by South Africa’s very own Keegan Longueira. It comes at a time when South Africa is battling with internal issues. The previous record held by Robert Knol was smashed by 10 days by the man from Witbank South Africa. 

“Its a dream come true,” says Keegan, who has since matriculating from St Benedict's College Bedfordview always loved the thought of doing something more in life. Keegan Arrived at the V&A Waterfront on May 2nd 2015 after being on the road for exactly 59 Days 8 hours and 30 minutes. 

The journey took him across 8 countries, from the Northern to the Southern Hemisphere. From being held at knifepoint in Egypt to dodging “Bandit Highway” terrorists in Northern Kenya Keegan as has been through a lot on the road to Cape Town. 

Keegan left Cairo on 2nd January 2015 and cycled South as quickly as he could. A tough spell of injuries and trip threatening infections on his inner leg in the first 5 days nearly put his dream of bringing the record home to Africa to rest but miraculous healing after a forced rest day in Aswan did him the world of good. After that, there was no looking back. At that stage, well behind record pace, Keegan put his ears back and pushed himself to the limit. 

“The 300kms the day after my rest day was tough, I have never ever gone so far and so long on a bike, gritting my teeth all day, keeping that dream in the back of my mind,” said Keegan. 

Kenya seems to stand out most in the mind of the Adventurer who loved the peoples hospitality and the incredible views!
